      Served as Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer of Engineer Maintenance Company, 4th Maintenance Battalion, a Marine Corp Reserve unit based in Omaha, NE. Promoted from Captain to Major before leaving the Marine Corps Reserve. As a Lieutenant and Captain, flew as an Aerial Observer in the OV-10 Bronco aircraft with Marine Observation Squadron One (VMO-1) conducting reconnaissance missions, adjusting artillery and naval gunfire, and acting as a Forward Air Controller - Airborne (FAC-A) directing close air support strikes. Awarded the Air Medal for flying 17 combat missions totaling over 70 hours over Kuwait during operation Desert Storm. As a Lieutenant, served as an Amphibious Vehicle (AAP-7) platoon commander for 22 months, including a 6 month UNITAS deployment on board the USS Barnstable County (LST 1189) to West Africa and South America, and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for exceptional performance. Served 6 months as a company executive officer.
