    • Leon Catering Ltd

      Jul 2006 - Nov 2014
Front of House Staff/ Supervisor/ Manager

At Leon's Catering Ltd I was initially employed as a waitress working at events ranging across weddings, funerals, christenings, marquee events, private events, black tie events and balls, sit down meals, london music events, rugby events and many more! However over the years my dedication to the job enabled me to improve my problem solving, customer service, initiative and organisational skills to a high standard. I gained knowledge of silver service and wines and rapidly progressed to a manager level. Over the years at the company I have worked at over 100s of events and progressed to a manager level. This required me to supervise teams of staff (up to 20) and manage events to ensure their smooth running. Often the nature of these events meant that I had to think quickly on my feet to problem solve last minute details or changes. I have trained numerous staff to the standard required of the company and now have a proven track record of successfully managing catering at a wide range of events. Show less

    • Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

      Jun 2009 - Jun 2009
Work Experience with the Marine Conservation Officer

Undertook work experience at the Wildlife Trust working under the Marine Conservation Officer. My role included analysing local wildlife data - in particular looking at the local seal populations and their behavior. As well as undertaking a 2 day trip to the Isle of Wight to survey seagrass populations in the area (Zostera marina and Zostera Noltii) using handheld GPS and the conflict of interest between local groups. Finally we also investigated reports of clam dredging in local protected and unprotected areas and assessed its impact on the local wildlife community. Show less

    • Julia Maddox Catering

      Jul 2009 - Nov 2014
      Front of House Manager

Working for Julia as a private caterer I have really improved my service skills as her clients expect an incredibly high standard of food service that I really enjoy providing. I take pride in helping cook and present the food Julia prepares as well as managing the events front of house. My level of responsibility has increased to the point where I will be left to manage Julia's events without her, in the knowledge that I will ensure her rigorous standard is kept to; some of her clients have used her for more than 20 years so I take this as a very serious responsibility. Both my silver service skills and initiative have been vastly improved under her supervision to ensure our service is above and beyond what the client has asked for. Show less

    • The Royal Oak

      Jan 2011 - Jan 2012
Front of House and Bar Supervisor

I worked at the Royal Oak pub and restaurant during my gap year between school and university as a member of the front of house staff team. I worked full time front of house and quickly worked my way up to a supervisor level. My hard work was rewarded and I was given the responsibility of working the two days that the manager had off. This required me to utilise my multitasking, time management skills and initiative. If any problems arose in the pub during these days it was my responsibility to deal with them unless they urgently required the attention of the manager. These duties included basic front of house jobs such as customer service, using the till, waitressing in the restaurant, answering the phone and taking bookings, basic cleaning duties, managing and ordering stock, dealing with orders and invoices, managing the cellar and seeing to deliveries and also cashing up and locking up at the end of the night. • Back Garden Chiropractic Clinic

      Jun 2011 - Sept 2014
Front Desk Receptionist and Personal Assisstant

I have worked part time at the Back Garden Chiropractic Clinic as a receptionist and PA to Dr Lisa Greig (chiropractor) since June 2011 during my university holidays. My duties include; answering the door and phone to clients, organising both Dr Lisa's and the practice diary and booking appointments, keeping on top of contact details and files, taking payments and book keeping, dealing with deliveries, ordering supplies and managing stock, sending and dealing with invoices, writing letters to doctors and hospitals re:patients, assissting Dr Lisa in various other personal needs. Throughout this experience my organisational and time keeping skills have been tested and improved dramatically, as well as my ability to multitask. The role has also improved my customer service skills both face to face and on the phone due to the sometimes sensitive nature of clients visiting a chiropractor. Show less

    • Trago Lounge

      Sept 2012 - Jul 2014
      Supervisor Front of House/ Waitress/ Bar/ Barista

I thoroughly enjoyed working in Trago Lounge, a fast-paced dynamic environment, part-time during my years at the University of Southampton. Due to the large nature of the restaurant and bar my previous experience was really valuable in dealing with large volumes of customers. I had to work hard to ensure customers were served in as quick a time as possible with the same level of customer service and high standard of food and drink that the restaurant and bar required. My training included learning how to make cocktails and shakes rapidly, sometimes tens at a time whilst ensuring their presentation was at a high standard. I was also given the responsibility of training new staff as they started at the company. On Monday nights we hosted a weekly quiz at which I was often quizmaster. This encouraged me to be more confident with my public speaking, even engaging with people and keeping the quiz light-hearted and fun! Show less

    • SUSUtv

      Sept 2012 - Jun 2014

I was elected by the members of SUSUtv to be Head of Events on the committee for the academic year 2013-2014, having already been an active member of the society over the previous year. The role required me to think creatively about making events that would appeal to all of our members, whilst also taking into account our members "student budget". To promote these events, the use of various social media platforms (facebook, twitter, instagram) was essential. I took great care in prioritising my time effectively in order to balance my weekly commitments to the society alongside my degree. Other events organised included coordinating and budgeting for SUSUtv's presence at national events, awards and conferences. Above this, I also used my networking and communication skills to contact various SUSUtv alumni and other industry connections to organise talks for our members interested in a career in TV or film. A highlight of this included organising a tour of Sky News Studios in London, where we were lucky enough to be able to speak to various presenters and members of the news team, to gain further insights into the industry. The weekly commitment to create a unique event, alongside other larger events throughout the year for the society, drastically advanced my multitasking and organisational skills and I thoroughly enjoyed this dynamic and multi-faceted role within SUSUtv. • Student TV Presenter

        Sept 2012 - Jun 2014
    • Exscitec

      Jun 2014 - Sept 2014

Part time academic and pastoral mentor for the company Exscitec that run STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) Summer Schools.I work as a Marine Science Demonstrator and Pastoral Mentor during the week-long STEM summer school sponsored by The BG Group in July each year. My role as a mentor is to support a group of students academically, whilst also being responsible for the welfare and safety of the group. I aim to confidently communicate my knowledge in an academic capacity in the field of oceanography, in a comprehensible and engaging format to students ranging in ability from Key Stage 3 - A Level. This skill is tested at the end of the week where the students in my group have to give a presentation to their peers on all that they have learnt during the week. The presentation is a success based upon whether I have successfully communicated my knowledge to them on a level they can understand. Show less Completed a one-day STEM Science day at the Ryde Academy on the Isle of Wight, working as an academic demonstrator. Excitec delivers outreach projects on behalf of Imperial College London encouraging students of all ages to participate in activities which promote STEM subjects. In this case I worked closely with the CEO of Excitec (Alan West MBE) and other demonstrators to make chemistry an engaging and exciting topic for a group of Year 7 students. The large group tested our skills at keeping the students both engaged and enjoying the subject, as well as our ability to make sure each student had understood the material being covered. Show less

    • National Oceanography Centre

      Jul 2014 - Aug 2014

I worked as a Marine Science Demonstrator for the National Oceanography Centre for outreach summer schools and programs throughout the year. This includes using scientific equipment on board the RV Callista (20m) such as the CTD, ADCP and sediment grab. By teaching GCSE and A-level students, this role has helped me to develop my skills in making science accessible, entertaining and understandable to someone with little/no prior knowledge of the subject. I am a strong communicator, as at times I will be in charge of lecturing up to 60 students aged 15-18. This experience rapidly encouraged me to develop my leadership and public speaking skills. I thoroughly enjoy the work as these students have a keen interest in marine science and my proudest moments are where they actively ask questions about the topics I have spoken about in order to learn more. Show less Marine Science Demonstrator for the National Oceanography Centre for the "Dragonfly Summer School" which was set up for the first time this year by Dr Simon Boxall, coordinating with the company "Headstart". This summer school was specifically aimed at encouraging young girls into STEM subjects, in particular marine science (including oceanography, marine biology, ship science and engineering). I was asked to demonstrate on this summer school due to my previous experience as an academic demonstrator. At times I was in charge of lecturing up to 30 students aged 15-18 which rapidly encouraged me to develop my leadership and public speaking skills. My aim was to confidently communicate my knowledge in an academic capacity, in the field of oceanography, in a comprehensible and engaging format to students ranging in ability from Key Stage 3 - A Level.
