  Improving the dissolution potential of corn stover for cellulose dissolution using 1,8-diazabicyclo [5.4.0] undec-7-en-8-ium acetate [DBUH][OAc] ionic liquidUnderstanding how the Ionic liquid dissolves pure cellulose materials like cotton- Make Ionic liquid- Assess dissolution of pure cellulose- Optimized dissolution of impure cellulose sources (cellulose sources containing hemicellulose, lignin, and other organics)- Lignin and hemicellulose components are often a barrier for cellulose and different types of ionic liquids have been proven to preferentially extract lignin and hemicellulose. IL can be modified with water to preference lignin and hemicellulose- Find optimum water-IL solution for lignin and hemicellulose extraction by assessing % dissolution- Understand if several passes of the optimum IL-water system will improve cellulose exposure for pure IL dissolution - Verify cellulose exposure with FTIR. Ideally, FTIR cellulose peaks should become more pronounced under FTIR- Understand how particle size affects dissolution/cellulose exposure for IL dissolution- Exploration of other pretreatment methods for cellulose exposure (NaOH alkaline treatments, Autohydrolysis, acid hydrolysis) Show less
