As the Warrant Officer COXN, I ensured the manpower resource element of the refit process grew and developed in time with the project. After initial analysis, I initiated revised working routines to suit programme and liaised closely with prime contractor/FOST to ensure the Ships company were suitably qualified to receive systems as they came online. With close to 200 personnel, mostly displaced from home, I worked with Depcos to de-conflict support, current and future mandated training in order to maintaining support to contractor and deliver crew harmony. Show less As the Warrant Officer COXN, I maintained the post within the RNSMS and developed the role to deliver and manage the new Phase 2 Corporate Squadron.I lead a project to amalgamate 3 disparate phase 2 communities into a single squadron and transfer all assets to new build accommodation. The initial brief allowed for a small budget, restricted manpower and strict timelines. Free reign was granted by the CO, HMS Raleigh but adherence to regulations and recommendations from OfSted etc were mandated. The solution continues to provide an integrated accommodation & support model for up to 240 phase 2 trainees within HMS Raleigh delivered by 10 Senior Rates and 2 Leading Hands. For my part in the project I received a Commanding Officers Commendation. Show less I branch Transferred to Submarine Coxswain and spent the first 3 years as the Manpower Co-ordinator onboard HMS Vengeance. During this time I was responsible to Command for the crewing of suitably qualified personnel to support the platform operations. I also managed all onboard discipline, travel and transport budgets. As the Coxswain for Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST), I was responsible for training Ship Control, Ship System Operations and Planesmanship in a full fidelity simulator. I also conducted Sea Training and Inspections as part of the FOST command team. Show less I spent the early part of my Naval Career as a Weapons Engineering Mechanic, working my way up to Chief Petty Officer. As the Chief Petty Officer, Officer of the Quarters I proposed, costed, project managed and delivered a combined weapon handling, towed array and engineering solution to support weapon loading TLAM trials in North America and Southern Europe with simultaneous delivery of specialist support to UK based units. Mixtures of cross training, new initiatives and flexible planning allowed the team to deliver support over a prolonged period in multiple arenas with no loss to units programme.Safety legislation, procedures and equipment availability was maintained or exceeded throughout and significant savings were made against initial estimates. The model is now applied as standard practice. Show less

To inform, support and advocate on behalf of serving Royal Navy & Royal Marine regulars and reservists and their families. I have developed active links within Naval Command, the Scottish Government and various Local Authorities. An established and growing network of support agencies and other 3rd sector organisations. Close links with serving population and their families throughout the UK.I have challenged policies that are seen to disadvantage serving families such as Scottish Rate of Income Tax, Student Funding, transfer of qualifications etc. Show less
