Mar 2001 - Sept 2001Praktikant (research chemistry intern) - lead optimisationIndustrial placement as part of my undergraduate degree. I joined the group of Research Chemistry Fellow (Chemiker), Dr Andy Edmunds and undertook lead optimisation chemistry research synthesising several new potentially bio-active compounds for testing as herbicides. My key activities were:- To develop synthetic routes to new compounds based on natural products under supervision- To produce these new compounds in the laboratory using practical synthetic chemistry- To chemically characterise intermediates and final products using a range of techniques including chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR- To record laboratory methods undertaken in both English and German Show less
