As part of the senior management team within Kirklees Libraries I shape the strategic direction, development and delivery of the service currently overseeing the implementation of a capital investment program for the service. Managing the major redesign/refurbishment/rebuild of key locations along with a service wide assessment and improvement plan for all assets I develop innovative solutions which result in quality, sustainable, fit for purpose buildings which enable the delivery of effective, community focussed services. I work collaboratively with council wide asset management team, lead the service’s project team and liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Consultation and engagement are key elements of this role and I will ensure communities are involved as the program moves forward. Show less As part of the senior management team for Kirklees Libraries I was responsible for the strategic direction, development and delivery of the service ensuring it’s relevance to communities, meeting their needs and making a difference to people’s lives; delivering an innovative service, responsive to change, efficient and effective which contributes to local, regional and national priorities and is at the forefront of the public library sector.Within this demanding and varied role I demonstrated my ability to work in a pressurised environment, managing multiple challenges simultaneously, leading the service successfully through substantial change, effectively solving problems and making key decisions. Show less I was responsible for the management of a group of community supported libraries ensuring a high quality service was delivered which was relevant and customer focussed. Central to this role was the recruitment and development of staff and volunteers and I established a large team of committed volunteers across the sites I manage alongside dedicated Friends Groups who together help to provide an expanded library service.Within this role I acted as the service lead for training and health and safety and led on various elements of the service’s volunteering programme. I managed the service's training team to ensure a quality training and development programme was in place for both staff and volunteers. Overseeing the service's health and safety provision I ensured all legal requirements were adhered to and training, guidance and support were in place for all staff and volunteers. Show less

I worked on a specific short term project to assess a large volume of donated books, journals and ephemera. I considered the condition and relevance of each item, processed, catalogued or disposed of as appropriate keeping detailed records of decisions and actions. Worked independently, managing own workload and using initiative effectively. This resulted in library staff and the public having direct access to new and a broader range of relevant material.
