The advanced skills team (CV-RT, or CVT) team was originally developed to assist medical staff and perform advanced skills during times when there was limited availability of Physicians in-house to respond to certain medical emergencies. It quickly grew into a very successful, and very unique program within which its trained members could perform many advances skills without direct Physician supervision. Endotracheal intubation, arterial line placement, setup and management of intra-aortic balloon pumps, etc. Eventually the team added assistance of cardiac and thoracic surgery setup, and OR time during surgeries to place advanced lines, assist in SWAN insertion, and other tasks needed during cardiac and thoracic cases.
