PhD candidate and researcher - traffic safety

I conducted various studies, mostly in the field of road safety. My main research focus has been surrogate measures of safety (measuring the severity of traffic interactions from video). Other topics and techniques that I worked on are behavioural observations, media reporting of crashes, survey research and trip decision making. I was involved in the acquisition and management of several major projects, including the EC H2020 project InDeV (In-Depth understanding of accident causation for Vulnerable road users) and the Policy Research Centre for Traffic Safety ("Steunpunt Verkeersveiligheid"). I coordinated and taught various courses in the bachelor-master programme in Transportation Sciences, mostly in the field of road safety, road safety audits and urban planning Show less

      Nov 2019 - now
      Freelance Researcher, Consultant & Speaker

Freelance researcher in road safety and mobility. Main expertise: - Video analyses of near-accidents ('traffic conflicts') and road users' behaviour. By using advanced video analysis techniques, near-accidents are detected and analysed in an objective and accurate way. This allows a pro-active diagnosis of safety risks, and a rapid and reliability evaluation of the effectiveness of measures.- Road Safety Audits & Inspections: Certified road safety auditor for the Flemish government.- Accident analysis (in-depth studies, reconstruction and 'classic' accident data analyses)- Innovative mobility: profound knowledge on autonomous vehicles, electrification, micro mobility- Speaker/lecturer on various topics in road safety and mobility. LRM invests in real estate (corporate and leisure), such as Corda Campus and Terhills. These sites have some challenges in terms of mobility, and host some innovative mobility projects - that's where I come in! We are also exploring the business and investment potential of the mobility transition. By investing in promising ideas, projects and companies, we aim to create an impact on the regional economy and transport system. Focus: autonomous and connected vehicles, mobility-as-a-service, electrification, innovation & technology, ITS, sustainable mobility,... Show less
