  Copper mineralization of the Omitiomire deposit in Namibia:A detailed stable isotopes study on tree drill cores following detailed core logging in the field, mineralogical description, and whole rock as well as mineral geochemical analyses of the coarse grained rocks. The study was done over about 60-meter sections of drill core with the highest Cu grades and the aim was to identify the alteration, and the timing thereof (prior to or during the metamorphism). The work was done in close collaboration both within the field and the laboratory as well as final interpretation with Prof. Alex Kisters and Shawn Kitt (PhD student studying the 3D structural geology) at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), as well as Dr. Nick Steven (project coordinator in Namibia) and Prof. Torsten Vennemann (University of Lausanne, Switzerland).   Natural gas flaring is a significant source of air pollutants, including carbon dioxide, on a regional and global scale, contributing to climate change and wasting a potentially valuable energy resource. Flare emissions are a major concern and can be detected by satellite remote sensing. They are also surrounded by great uncertainty about the amount of chemical compounds released into the atmosphere and how they change over time. S&P Global holds volumes of carbon dioxide from flaring at oil production sites around the world on a daily basis. Its involvement in the detection and mitigation of flaring is a hot topic for the company. Thanks to the data provided from 10 sites mostly offshore Nigeria, over a total of 4 years, it is possible to compare them with satellite data.The goal of this work is to find a method to directly correlate the volumes of flare emissions measured at the oil production sites with the radiance of the VIIRS infrared satellite imagery. Through qualitative zoning and extraction of zonal DNB statistics from the various satellite images retrieved from the EOS site, a correlation is found with the flare gas volume data provided by S&P Global.Taking all the results obtained, and optimizing the results, we find an excellent correlation with an R=0.85, close to the Word Bank correlation. This optimal correlation was only possible, in part, because of the deviation of some data concerning months where the cloud cover does not allow a good estimation of the volume by satellite, even with the processing of the EOS cloud filter. Qualitative zoning is less accurate than automated detection with the help of artificial intelligence, to be implemented later. Show less
