Performed research on bioremediation of groundwater contaminated by Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPLs) comprised of a variety of halogenated alkenes (PCE, TCE, DCE, vinyl chloride), halogenated alkanes (e.g., 1,2-DCA, 1,2-DCP, 1,1,2-TCA. 1,1,2,2-TeCA), and chlorinated benzenes. Research results were published in three peer-reviewed journal articles and presented research in five conference proceedings. Show less

Directed research targeting bioremediation of halogenated alkenes, halogenated alkanes, and chlorinated benzenes in groundwater contaminant plume and DNAPL source zone at a Superfund site. Conducted and supervised treatability and optimization studies, developed molecular tools for in situ microbial community analyses, and interpreted groundwater biogeochemical analyses. Cultured, isolated, characterized, and classified aerobic and anaerobic bacterial strains of environmental significance using a polyphasic approach that includes use of traditional microbiological techniques and DNA based techniques. Served as a technical expert in anaerobic reductive dehalogenation for in-situ bioremediation of chlorinated solvents in complex subsurface environments. Research activities supported regulatory approval for the selection of biostimulation as a remediation strategy for a groundwater contaminant plume, monitored natural attenuation for a DNAPL contaminant source zone, and in eight peer-reviewed journal publications.Other responsibilites included:• Led technical experimental design, data analysis, and results interpretation. • Prepared and reviewed technical reports and global conference presentations.• Served as subject matter expert (SME) as a manuscript reviewer for nine technical journal articles. • Trained and supervised undergraduate and graduate student researchers. • Maintained and operated laboratory equipment.• Managed research laboratory including personnel, safety and instrumentation.• Budgeted for equipment and supplies. REMEDIATION•Researched former remediation activities under the Volunteer Remediation Program (VRP) of Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) and developed and implemented a scope of work and work plan for evaluating outstanding remediation requirements for a petroleum impacted site. Investigation results allowed client to determine remaining impacts, remediation options, and options for divestment.COMPLIANCE•Spill Prevention, Countermeasure & Control (SPCC) Plans: Analyzed facility diagrams and drafted SPCC plans for oil and gas facilities in Oklahoma and Colorado to enable clients to effectively protect navigable waters in the event of a spill.•Air Permitting: Calculated air emissions and completed minor source air permit applications and permits by rule (PBR) for oil and gas facilities in accordance with federal regulations, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, and Louisiana state regulations and North Dakota tribal regulations. Utilized ProMax, TANKS, and GLYCalc simulation software to evaluate air emissions. Ensured clients met their air permitting requirements within regulated deadlines.•Greenhouse Gas Reporting: Supported oil and gas client compliance with Greenhouse Gas Reporting regulations by calculating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, according to CFR 98 Subpart C and Subpart W and reported emissions using EPA's E-GGRT.•Emissions Inventory: Ensured client compliance by following Texas regulations for Emission Inventory reporting using the State of Texas Environmental Electronic Reporting System (STEERS) for oil and gas facilities in Texas.•Boiler and Engine National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP): Identified NESHAP requirements for boilers and engines for synthetic minor source surface coating and handling facility in Nebraska to ensure compliance with most up to date regulations. Show less RISK ASSESSMENT and REGULATORY REPORTING•Applied Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP) regulations to prepare an Affected Property Assessment Report (APAR) for a former 300 acre refinery in Texas permitted within the jurisdiction of the Resource Conservation and Resource Act (RCRA). Identified human exposure pathways, established contaminant protective concentration limits (PCLs), and delineated PCL exceedance zones for site specific soil and groundwater contaminants of concern. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) reviewed and approved the APAR without questions or comments.REMEDIATION•Co-authored a management and execution plan to define project scope and project framework and management for implementation of a Pilot Test and Full Scale Corrective Action to remediate impacted soils at a chemical manufacturing plant.LITIGATION•Provided litigation support through technical data analysis of soil data against claims of soil destruction allegedly due to exploration and production activities.
