  National Institute of Malaria Research (ICMR-NIMR) is a premier biomedical research institution in India and supports malaria control programs of the country through basic, applied, and operational scientific research with the ultimate goal of eliminating malaria from India.Throughout my time at ICMR-NIMR, I managed 6 research projects and worked with 15+ research professionals involving medicinal chemists, microbiologists, biologists, clinicians, and pharmacologists with the goal of solving modern-day challenges in drug discovery and healthcare.I managed a cross-functional research team of 3 medicinal chemists, 1 microbiologist, and 1 pharmacologist and discovered 12 prospective malaria drugs, showcasing advanced innovation and communication skills, resulting in 1 research publication in a scientific journal.I managed a research project discovering 2 novel gametocyte-producing parasite species of Indian origin having applicability in drug discovery, resulting in 2 research publications in scientific journals. These species are now extensively utilized by other scientists to screen novel antimalarial drugs.I collaborated with the medicinal chemistry group of University of Delhi in a research project that led to the discovery of a novel series of sulfonamide-based antimalarials and resulted in 2 research publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.I proactively liaised with clinicians and scientists in Indian hospitals to study clinical epidemiology, resulting in 1 conference presentation.I managed a team of researchers and developed a 3-part comprehensive data review series on 'Malaria drugs and drug-screening assays' in a leading medical journal (3 first author reviews, 65,000+ words, 500+ references, and 97 printed pages).I supervised and mentored 30+ undergraduate and post-graduate students of different cultures, regions, and nationalities, ensured the proper functioning of laboratory equipment and maintained yearly lab budgets. Show less I managed a cross-functional research team and developed a simple and cost-effective technique to improve the production of specialized parasitic cells from infected clinical blood samples by 500% for drug discovery purposes, resulting in 1 research publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.I collaborated with researchers from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, India and developed a chalcone-based drug for blocking the transmission of Malaria in a virtual team environment, resulting in 1 research publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.I optimized an automated technique for testing of new drugs, reducing the time taken to test one drug from 1 hour to 10 seconds and the labor requirement from 2 trained microscopy experts to 1 technician. The technique replaced the manual technique that used to be the standard technique of my organization for the past 20 years.I maintained laboratory protocols, formulated SOPs and carried out Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of 500+ Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits for Malaria.I proactively liaised with senior management and administration of two research institutions in India, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and negotiated a bilateral agreement, benefiting both the institutions in terms of exchange of manpower and mutual use of research facilities.I maintained yearly budget of my laboratory and handled all the laboratory purchases.   I started Bioindus communications during peak COVID when there was pressure on scientists worldwide to discover new treatment options for COVID-19. As a result, each day new research studies reporting therapeutic strategies for COVID were getting published. However, because of the time sensitivity of publishing COVID research, the writing quality of the publications took a back seat. As a result, physicians and scientists were unable to correctly comprehend the results of those studies and apply the findings to save the lives of COVID-19 patients. That is where I came in. I joined hands with medical writing companies in China, Turkey, and the US and vowed to improve the writing quality of the publications reporting COVID research to save patients lives. This was a short term stint and I was able to work with 500+ scientists and doctors from different countries to help them report their research findings the right way.P.S.
