  • Experience

    • US Navy

      Sept 2007 - Jan 2016

As a master training specialist I had the pleasure of mentoring 522 SEAL students through 2,280 high-risk activities in 18 grueling mountaineering courses over the last three years in Kodiak, Alaska. SEAL Team Five operator

      • SEAL Instructor

        Jan 2013 - Jan 2016
      • SEAL

        Sept 2007 - Jan 2013
    • University of Washington Physics Department

      Mar 2017 - Sept 2020
      Undergraduate Researcher

Repeated polarized confocal microscopy of diamond nitrogen vacancy centers to extrapolate vacancy dynamics from population and orientation changes after high temperature vacuum annealing.Publication: https://journals.aps.org/prmaterials/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevMaterials.4.023402

    • Center for Emergent Materials (NSF MRSEC)

      May 2018 - Jul 2018
      Undergraduate Research Fellow

MBE and tabletop optics, studying proposed spin caloritronic effects in novel Vander Waals bonded materials.

    • Massachusetts Institute of Technology

      Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
      Undergraduate Research Fellow

Simulated and tested broadband silicon photonic normal coupling devices fabricated using multiphoton lithography for wafer level optical chip testing and increased bandwidth for optical communication through improved wavelength-division multiplexing.

    • Lumotive

      Sept 2020 - Jun 2024
      Staff Engineer

Tested, designed, and analyzed liquid crystal beam-steering metasurface devices. Designed and performed optical and stress tests to improve and qualify the world's first commercial active metasurface product. Analyzed electrical and optical device performance to screen delivery parts, determine failure modes, and design device improvements. Trained and automated a ML algorithm for detecting wafer and die level defects from stitched optical microscope images taken from a custom IR microscope that I helped design. Performed SEM, EDX, and progressive FIB imaging in-house. Aligned and coordinated maintenance of the Apreo dual-beam. Moved, set-up, and requalified many sensitive optical tabletop experiments. Trained new employees in standard operating procedures. Show less
