VISN 10 Healthcare Technology Manager, VISN Biomedical Engineer, RTLS Program Manager

I implemented a real time location system (RTLS) in the VA Healthcare System of Ohio over the course of a two year period (September 2011 to July 2013). The budget for the project included an initial multi-million dollar budget for the RTLS project and received additional multi-million funds for expansion. During the implementation, I collected best practices, lessons learned and benefits and documented them for other project managers across the nation doing similar projects. Post implementation I gather data for analysis, using key metrics for process improvement, workflow efficiencies, and employee education. I manage the recurring maintenance service contracts and deliverables. In the fall of 2015, the Veterans Health Administration integrated our region with another (Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana). I lead the two programs for RTLS covering 12 medical centers and 3 community based outpatient clinics. I lead the two programs for the region. In addition to the RTLS Program, I manage the Biomedical Engineering Program for the VA Healthcare System of Ohio. The Biomedical Engineering Program works with key stakeholders to maintain medical devices, programs and systems. Medical systems and programs include a Clinic Information System and Anesthesia Record Keeping Program (CIS/ARK), Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), Telehealth, TeleICU, Enhanced Biomedical Engineering Resource Survey (quarterly data collection, performance tool used in VA Healthcare Technology Management), VA Medical Device Nomenclature Standardization Program, Medical Device Isolation Architecture (in conjunction with IT Department), Medical Device Protection Program, and GE's MUSE cardiology information system. These programs work closely with with key leadership individuals, organization councils and committees. Show less

I worked in a temporary capacity to assist with the National Real Time Location System (RTLS) Project Management Office (PMO). I worked with VA regional hospital systems to implement their RTLS solutions. I collected and analyzed data to understand the efficiency of implementations and their progress. I lead teams at deployment sites with Performance Validation Testing (readiness for final testing) in preparation for Operational Readiness Testing (final testing to take system ownership). Other duties included contract document preparation and cost projections. While detailed to the RTLS PMO I lead several committees responsible for specific portion of the implementations and sustainment and management of the solution post-implementation. Show less

I am developing content for a graduate level (undergraduate option) class for medical instrumentation focused on clinical engineering students. I prepare lectures regarding various medical devices found in clinical settings; discussing patient safety, cybersecurity, and lifecycle management. The associated labs focus on data from various medical instrumentation and how it aids in product development and patient care.
