      2014-Present- CTRAL. Human research, amino acid metabolism. Conducts human translational biomedical research investigating the disturbances in protein and amino acid metabolism in chronic and acute diseases associated with involuntary weight loss and muscle wasting. Stable isotope methodology is used to study the underlying metabolic pathways and to determine nutritional requirements. The effects of disease, treatments (eg chemotherapy, hospitalization), and (acute and chronic) nutritional intervention are studied on splanchnic and muscle metabolism, body composition and physical performance.
