Show less I was responsible for ensuring the safety and suitability of New Zealand's exports for overseas and domestic markets by providing food safety and biosecurity, verification and official assurances / certification required for exporting New Zealand's food and animal products to overseas markets.o Conducted daily external food safety inspections and periodic audits in meat processing plants where animals are slaughtered, boned, packaged, stored, further processed or exported;o Visited over 20 meat and animal product processing plants of sheep, bovine and cervine species;o Ensured that official assurances issued for export products are valid and withstand third-party reviews through audit and verification of the operators;o Ensured the operators put into place timely and effective corrective and preventative actions, and confirm these are implemented robustly via follow up verification and be involved in obtaining dispositions;o Intervene or apply sanctions as necessary;o Regular face-to-face meetings regarding compliance issues or technical clarifications with personnel of different levels from plant manager to frontline staff;o Conducted regular food safety audits in establishments processing and packaging finished animal products (e.g. ready-to-eat meals);o Conducted animal welfare inspections on farms, saleyards and of vehicles for their transportation;o Assisted various meat and animal product processing plants to obtain the necessary licences for export and food production;o Revision of HACCP and food safety processes of meat processing, packaging, boning plants and storage facilities;o Communication of current and new technical information to meat processing plants;o Certification and emission of certificates of imports or exports for animal products.
