Thesis title "1,1'-Bis(o-carborane): Ruthenium Chelates, Phosphines and Tether Derivatives".I worked in a laboratory environment throughout my PhD using standard experimental techniques alongside Schlenk line chemistry. My PhD results have been published as two papers in a peer-reviewed journal (Dalton Transactions). My first paper entitled "Unprecedented flexibility of the 1,1'-bis(o-carborane) ligand: catalytically-active species stabilised by B-agostic B-H⇀Ru interactions" was one of the top 10 most cited papers of Dalton Trans. in 2016.I have had the opportunity to present this work at national and international conferences and in 2016 I won an award for my oral contribution at an international conference in Russia (Euroboron VII). In 2015 I won an award at Heriot-Watt University for my excellent research progress and in 2014 won an award at the same event for my poster contribution. In 2015 I was chair of the organising committee for the Universities of Scotland Inorganic Chemistry (USIC) conference which gave me the opportunity to manage and execute the planning of a national two-day event.Throughout my time at Heriot-Watt University I was involved with the creation and continuation of the postgraduate and postdoctoral society within the institute of chemical sciences. I took the lead in planning and organising a careers day for all chemistry students at the university whilst in this position. Show less
