    • National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)

      Mar 2001 - May 2009

As a Web/Database Applications Engineer in the Systems Engineering group, my job primarily entails programming Web interfaces and other applications that interact with databases. Given my experience with remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), I also work on projects related to data visualization and distribution. Over the years, I have also worked substantially with geospatial metadata standards (e.g. DIF, FGDC, etc.). Some of my larger projects have included: Atlas of the Cryosphere; Metadata Data Entry Interface; metadata conversion, validation, and display; PerlDesk; Trak; as well as file migration and checksum generation for our tape archive. Some of the technologies and buzzwords that I have experience with include: AMASS, ArcGIS, CSS, Dreamweaver, ENVI, Excel, GDAL, Google Earth, Google Maps API, HTML, IDL, JavaScript, KML, MapServer, MySQL, OGC, OGR, OpenEV, Perl, Photoshop, PowerPoint, PostGIS, SOAP, SQL, Sybase, WCS, WFS, WMS, XML, XML Schema, and XSLT. Show less User Services Representatives act as the central interface to the scientific user community on behalf of the entire National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). This interface function includes collecting and maintaining user contact and request information, providing and/or coordinating information and data services in response to user inquiries, tracking communication and correspondence, ensuring that inquiries have been satisfied following established procedure, and representing the user perspective in development efforts. Additional responsibilities include participation in working groups and representing User Services in other Data Center tasks and meetings as appropriate. Show less Responsible for operating data systems at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), assisting in administration of NSIDC's robotic archive systems as well, as for developing and documenting procedures for the entire operations team. This includes operations and archive administration for the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Core System (ECS) as well as NSIDC's Version 0 (V0) systems. The ECS supports data from the Terra, Aqua, and ICESat NASA missions. The V0 system supports heritage and NOAA/NASA Pathfinder datasets. Specific responsibilities are broad and variable. Show less

    • Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS)

      Jul 2009 - now

At the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, I work within the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) Data Management team to help design and develop a system to acquire and archive oceanographic data (remote sensing, models, observations from buoys, moorings, gliders, etc.) and to provide a system by which users can search and access these data. The data system will also integrate these data streams to facilitate the development of useful derived data products and delivery systems. We ensure that data formats are consistent with national standards; provide binary datatransport via OPeNDAP and ftp/http or other web-based servers; develop web-browsing capabilities through a Live Access Service (LAS) and Web Map Server (WMS); and work in coordination with web developers and data assistants who are responsible for populating the PacIOOS portal with products and/or data provided by PacIOOS scientific investigators.
