The aim of the Headway programme was to increase individual’s emotional intelligence and self-awareness through exploring different theoretical concepts but grounding them in real life work-based situations. This involved professional discussions along with a fellow facilitator with groups of 6-8 people over a 12-session programme. The Headway approach aims to increase individual’s self-awareness based on conversation and storytelling through narratives based on topics rather than traditional chalk and talk. The sessions are held away from classrooms in coffee shops.to aid discussion and the feeling of being “away from work” to reduce interruptions. It allows participants to share their thoughts and relate their own personal experiences to the narratives in a safe non-judgmental space. Participant were provided with a story book one week prior to each session and were expected to have read it and to come along with an open mind. There are no right or wrong answers. The initial 12 session introductory programme was held fortnightly and covered the following topics; Sensing and Intuition; Thinking and Feeling; Core Types; Conscientiousness; Intellectual Curiosity; Proactivity; Momentum; Bouncebackability; Focus; Communication; Wisdom; Direction.
