  Over the course of my two years with Rainbow Rentals, I held several management positions, ranging from Store Manager to Assistant Market Manager. I benefited from several opportunities to take over retail and service operations in several different states, and traveled all over the country in order to train, or audit, or help grow the business of a new store. I had the unique opportunity to manage the operations of nearly every type of business market: NEW, Existing But Declining, and Existing But Growing markets. Additionally, I fine tuned my Human Resources skills, became a fast study of case law related to hiring and employment practices in several states, and wrote policy manuals for those new stores. By the end of my tour of duty at Rainbow, I had become ever confident in my abilities as manager, and felt confident that my skills had been proven in varying business and political environments. In Feb 2004, Rent-A-Center purchased Rainbow Rentals for $96 Million in cash, plus stock incentives, and guaranteed jobs for all employees. Show less

  Over the course of less than two years I held several successive management positions with Rent-A-Center (RAC), including Multi-store Manager and Region Training Manager. Overseeing stores in the RAC’s Eastern division, I performed audits, provided training to new store managers, helped build cohesive teams from varied backgrounds, scouted, developed, and promoted new markets, and worked with Commonwealth’s Attorney’s and Law Enforcement Agencies' to prosecute theft/fraud in stores throughout the region.   I enjoyed multitasking in a myriad of advisory and management positions on the Sheriff's Executive Team. Among my duties, I oversaw the Special Operations Unit (Tactical Response Team), ran the (1033) Equipment Reutilization Program, served as: Director of Communications and Public Affairs; Public Information Officer; OIC of Professional Standards; My duties included 24/7 communication with news media for public information, speechwriting, drafting agency policy and SOP’s, performing audits and inspections, overseeing logistics and planning inmate movement in crisis situations, providing classroom training for supervisors, and serving as the Liaison to other Government agencies as well as to the Virginia General Assembly and businesses and community organizations. I also served as the Administrator and Primary Search Specialist for the City's Project Lifesaver Program (a program which placed tracking devices on persons with cognitive disabilities who are prone to wander). During my tenure with the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office I was instrumental in helping solve a 40+ year budget deficiency, and we balanced our budget the first year and again every single cycle until I left. Additionally, two months into my career, I was assigned the responsibility of getting our agency Accredited through VLEPSC, which we achieved in less than 9 months. Show less

  In June 2016 I left my career in law enforcement to care for my mother, who had cancer. Over the course of more than two years I learned many things, the main thing being how important it is for those who are suffering to have an advocate. Taking care of my mother was as rewarding as it was difficult. Her care ultimately became a 24/7 job, but I would not trade a single day of it.
