      Shift Manager

When there is a new employee, I get the privilege of training them. I look at it as a way to incorporate what I want to do for a living, teaching, and incorporate it into the job that I'm currently working. I do my best to make sure that employee is going to make as few mistakes as possible when I'm not around. I also cook and deliver the food. This lets me work in both a quick and efficient manner. This is a way of doing things that can be incorporated into this job, other jobs, and everyday life. Show less

    • Farmers State Bank, Algona, IA

      May 2009 - Aug 2011
      Intern

I organized files and worked with several employees of the bank. I learned about how loans work from the application process through paying one off. The biggest thing that I've taken away from this job is an increase in my organization skills. This has bettered my skills which have helped me out in several aspects in my years since the internship.

      Education Field Experience (Wartburg College)

During each field experience, I was working with a cooperative teacher that provided wisdom and answered the many questions I had for them before, during, and after my field experience was complete. During each of these field experiences I was able to work one-on-one with the students allowing me to teach them new material and help them work on their older material. I also had the chance in many of them to teach a lesson in front of the classroom. I received positive feedback from all of the teachers following these lessons.Nashua-Plainfield High School (25 hours)-Nashua, IA-Here I observed Geometry, Consumer Math, and Computers Classes. This was my first field experience where I spent a lot of time observing and taking in as much information as I could. I taught a lesson about rates and interest to a Consumer Math class. This gave me an opportunity to teach a lesson from their book and expand my knowledge of classroom technology by learning how to expand my knowledge of computers and projectors.Waverly-Shell Rock High School (15 hours)-Waverly, IA-Here I observed Geometry, Algebra I, and Algebra II Classes. This was an experience for me that was more comfortable for me due to my previous experience. I received knowledge on how to work with students that would have specific needs within the classroom. I got the opportunity to teach a Geometry Class about angles and how they work within various shapes. I also learned ways to create my own exams.Abraham Lincoln High School (32 hours)-Denver, CO-This experience covered Algebra and Geometry classes. This was one of my most valuable experiences because it was in a school where almost the entire student population was Hispanic. This was different for me because I have been primarily working in schools that are mostly white. I learned much about working with students that could barely speak the english language as well as students that their home lives greatly affected how they were in school. Show less

I also have gained a lot of experinece working on homes. This has helped me develop skills for working on roofs, and putting up both tin and plastic siding on the sides of buildings.

Education Field Experience (Buena Vista University)

The class sizes ranged from one to a dozen students. I also taught a lesson about collecting data and creating graphs from the data collected in an Algebra II course. This gave me a taste of what it can be like teaching in front of a very small classroom.Emmetsburg High School (August 2014 - November 2014)-Emmetsburg, IA-This was my student teaching experience to complete my teaching certification through Buena Vista University. I taught several different math classes for students in grades 8-12. I taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Consumer Math.
