As the Director of Public Works, I manage the daily operation and budget of a very diverse department that includes four divisions: Development & Flood Control, Engineering & Construction Services, Infrastructure Maintenance, and Transportation Services, which encompass work groups for Fleet, Parks Maintenance, Roadway Maintenance & Beautification, Building Maintenance, Traffic Operations, Land Development Permitting & Offsite Inspections, Floodplain Management, NDPES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit Compliance, GIS & Asset Management, Engineering Design, Survey, and Construction Management.Under my leadership, the department functionally consolidated workflows with the Utilities Department and the General Services Department that added water/sewer land development permitting & inspections, water/sewer capital improvement design & construction management, water/sewer GIS & Asset Management, building & parks maintenances, and fleet management into existing Public Works divisions. Having all of these work groups integrated into Public Works streamlines the workload, allows for better workforce sharing and utilization, and makes our land development permitting process more efficient. In doing this consolidation, the City has recognized significant reduction in the time to permit projects, making it one of the easiest places in the Las Vegas Valley to do business. In a further effort to make the City the most development-friendly entity in the Valley, I have worked with our Building Official to implement a Self-certification program that allows local engineers to be certified with the City and offer them four day permits for certain development projects.I serve on the Executive Advisory Committee of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada as well as the Technical Advisory Committee of the Regional Flood Control District and the Las Vegas Valley Stormwater Quality Management Committee.
