  Drilling Engineering Internship. I analyzed the directional tendencies of the Trail Ridge field in the Piceance Basin to determine if any portion of a directional S well could be drilled without directional tools by using the dip of the formation.

  Designed and modified directional S wells, analyzed and recommended drill bits for specific areas and intervals, prepared permits and drilling prognoses for new wells, assisted drilling operations personnel with well control events, worked with outside vendors to engineer new cement designs for unusual well issues such as bradenhead gas pressure and low tops of cement, assisted Completions Engineers with swellable packer design for a low producing field, minor cross training with production and completion engineering disciplines, assisted and offered backup to drilling superintendent, completed engineering operations for up to 4 drilling rigs operating in the Piceance Basin. Planned and executed a successful intern program in the Piceance Basin with inputs from the corporate program.   Assisted in managing a muli-million dollar OCTG (casing) program through bids, competitive pricing and inventory management of tubulars to reduce risk to WPX Energy. Utilized data team to build a PowerBI dashboard that highlights casing volumes and changes as the drill schedule changes. This was shared with the OCTG distributors and to identify scheduling risks. Utilized multiple contacts to create solutions for inventory shortages. Saved $300,000 in tubular costs by evaluating current market pricing and taking advantage of inventory on the ground. Used technical engineering background for decision-making. Compared pricing between multiple vendors for drilling services with comparisons designed for varying pricing formats. Found nearly $200,000 of credits to WPX Energy in 2020 after analyzing past invoices. Show less Designed and implemented 1-, 2- and 3-mile horizontal Bakken and Three Forks wells in the Williston Basin. Led drilling team in decreasing spud to release best time from 17 days to sub 12 days while consistently reducing average times and well costs. While reducing drilling times and costs, our drilling team also focused on reducing dog legs in the intermediate and lateral section of the wellbore. Successfully drilled 3-mile laterals, close passes (less than 10’ center to center) with existing wells in laterals, high angle tangents with rotary steerable tools, and laterals using OBM instead of the more common brine system. Grew program from 1 rig to 3 rigs with no local drilling superintendent. Prepared internal presentations as needed. Show less Designed, analyzed, and implemented WPX Energy’s horizontal Niobrara wells in the Piceance Basin. Challenges in these wells included lost circulation, high pressures (17-19 ppg mud) and high temperatures (300F+). Assisted geologists, operations personnel, Reservoir, Completions, and Production Engineers in a cross functional team in adding value to specific fields in the Piceance Basin by looking for improvements and new opportunities. Provided Drilling Engineering and project management for a 5-rig drilling program in the Piceance Basin drilling vertical S wells. Trained new engineers for daily drilling engineering responsibilities. Additional responsibilities included lead drilling engineer for an exploration project in Montana in 2014. Our team drilled 5 vertical wells and acquired data for a potential shallow horizontal drilling program. Supported drilling engineering for horizontal well design in the Powder River Basin.
