      Jan 1999 - May 2006
      Football Reporter (freelance)

I worked on a freelance basis for the Hayters Teamwork Sports Agency for many years and reported on numerous football matches, including an England international, and supplied copy for many national and regional newspapers. In the 2004-05 season, I supplied reports, previews and reaction pieces about the FA Youth Cup (including the final) which appeared on the official Football Association website - www.TheFA.com.In 2005 I began working as a freelancer for the Sportsbeat Sports Agency and supplied reports from Championship, Football League and FA Cup games for The League Paper. My time at these two organisations has given me valuable experience in filing match reports, many of which have had to be done before the end of a match or right on the final whistle. I have also had unpaid work experience placements at Sport First, Essex Chronicle and Essex Courier. Show less

    • Evening Star / East Anglian Daily Times / Green 'Un

      Sept 2001 - Jun 2006
      Sports Reporter / News Reporter

After graduating from university, I worked for the Archant group in Ipswich. I started on their weekly football paper The Green 'Un and became deputy editor within four months, writing stories, features and sub-editing.In January 2003 I attended a four-month training course and gained an NVQ in journalism. I then moved on to become a news reporter for the Evening Star. During this time, I had many front-page stories and covered events including traffic accidents, armed robberies, court stories, human interest stories and breaking stories.I moved on to the sports desk of the Evening Star in September 2004 and wrote numerous stories, match reports, features and player / manager interviews. My writing style was rewarded as I was given a regular two-page feature where I quizzed local sporting personalities.I also wrote a season-long series called Ipswich Town Uncovered, which looked behind the scenes at a major club. I was then the editor of a 16-page weekly supplement called Grass Roots, which focused on encouraging youngsters to take part in sport and be active. Show less
