      Randy Ivans is a program/project manager in UL LLC's wire & cable division. He is responsible for the development, implementation and/or maintenance of various UL programs in the wire & cable area. These programs include evaluating cables for powering over LAN cable applications, high speed audio/video cable performance and patch-cord performance. Prior to his current position, as an Associate Managing Engineer Randy managed a Section in UL’s Melville, NY facility that was responsible for Listing Telephone Equipment in accordance with worldwide requirements. He played a primary role in the development of the requirements for UL's telecom standards and developed a number of specialized Listing categories to meet the specific needs of the telecommunications industry. Randy is an NFPA member and UL's primary representative of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, Code Making Panel No. 3 that is responsible for Articles 300, 725 and 760 covering wiring methods and power limited circuits. He is also UL's alternate on Panel 16 that is responsible for Articles 770, 800, 810, 820 and 830 covering communications systems. Randy received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and his Master of Science in Technology Management from Polytechnic University. He is also a National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) certified Product Safety Engineer and a distinguished member-technical staff in UL's William Henry Merrill Society. Show less Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of various UL standards and certification programs including the UL497 series of protector standards and UL’s NEBS Mark program. Developed new standards for audio/video, information and communication technology equipment cabinet, enclosure and rack systems (UL 2416) which covers enclosure systems intended to house customer installed equipment, modular data centers (UL2755) and meter socket adapters for communications equipment (UL 2745).Member of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, Code Making Panel No. 16 that is responsible for Chapter 8 covering communications systems. Chairman of the TIA TR41.7 Committee on Environmental and Safety Issues and a member of the ATIS Sustainability in Telecom: Energy and Protection Committee (STEP) where he chaired the NPP subcommittee on physical protection.
