  In May, 2017, I was appointed as the Assistant Resident Engineer for the upgrading to bitumen standards of Kirwara- Kigio- Blue Post Road, Contract No: RWC 132. Some of my responsibilities were:• Assessed the Contractor’s insurances to ensure that they were valid and, in the amounts, as per the Contract requirements• Evaluated the Contractor’s Programme and supporting schedules of labour, plant, and cashflow estimates• Carried out alignment of soils and materials site investigations• Prepared Site Instructions for approval by the Resident Engineer• Prepared bi- monthly and quarterly reports as well as minutes to site meetings• Carried out daily supervision of works and attended to requests for approval• Monitored progress of works against the submitted programme, identified and recorded all deviations and communicated the same to the Resident Engineer• Carried out concrete mix designs and surface dressing designs respectively• Carried out geometric and pavement design for a 5km additional road section• Carried out project cost appraisals to evaluate the billed quantities and for the inclusion of additional roads respectively.• Evaluated the Contractor’s Interim Payment Certificates and validated the presented quantities• Assessed claims submitted by the Contractor• I engaged different stakeholders such as utility companies for the relocation of services and local community when identifying potential material sources• Maintained an updated record of the Contractor’s labour and equipment returns. Show less In February, 2020, I was appointed as a design engineer for the preliminary detailed design of 53Km Kimbimbi–Kutus/KTI-Ithareini-Kirigu–Kianyaga/Ithareini–Kiangombe– Kianguenyi/Kangaita – Mugumo road links. I performed the following duties:• Carried out traffic volume counts to determine existing traffic volumes and traffic composition• I coordinated the materials teams for the design project and was involved in the alignment soil sampling and testing of the road sections.• From the results of the field investigations and laboratory testing, I prepared the materials and pavement design report for the roads.• I carried out the geometric design, and contract documentation for the project Show less Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I was employed by KeRRA as an Assistant Engineer. I was then deployed to the Gatundu- Karinga- Flyover Road project under the Resident Engineer.Under guidance of my supervisors, i gained experience in the following:• Participated in the pavement design review• Participated in laboratory design trials for concrete and asphalt mixes • Involved in the approval of borrow pits for subgrade and subbase materials, aggregates, cement, bitumen and road marking paint through confirmatory testing• Quality control testing of completed sections of fill, subgrade and pavement layers, • Prepared material quality control reports and test results and making recommendations for the Resident Engineer’s approval• Prepared the pavement record charts and as- built construction records. • Drafted site instructions and clarifications for the Resident Engineer• Prepared and compiled monthly progress reports, monthly site meeting minutes and briefs• Examined the Contractor’s measurement sheets and interim payment certificates• Liased with the respective service providers for relocation of services on the road alignment • Handling community complaints and requests for access culverts• Monitored environmental aspects of the works.• Analysed of claims for extension of time• Assessed the Contractor’s insurances to ensure that they were valid and renewals/extensions done in line with the Extension of Time issued to the Contractor• Prepared the taking over certificate upon substantial completion of works Show less

  I had the privilege of being chosen to participate in Curtin's Summer Insight Program, which centered on the fields of Civil Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure. Throughout the program, each week revolved around a distinct theme, featuring engaging workshops and valuable feedback sessions with accomplished engineering professionals, in-house experts, and prominent figures from the industry. Within the framework of the insight program, I undertook various courses, including introduction to BIM (Building Information Modeling) and Civil 3D using Pinnacle Series. Show less
