      Curricular research internship

This project evolved two main objectives. First we studied the impact of NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) on peripheral glucose homeostasis. Secondly we addressed the long term effects of glucose intolerance in the brain, in an animal mouse model of pre diabetes.

      Jan 2013 - Jan 2014
      Research fellow

This project aimed to highlight molecular and cellular mechanisms governed by the molecule CD26/DPP4 in experimental mouse models of induced hepatocyte damage. We found that CD26/DPP4 enzymatic activity contributes to recovery from liver injury and is a potential systemic surrogate marker of severe impairments in the Kupffer cells population (liver resident macrophages).

    • Instituto gulbenkian de ciencia

      Jan 2015 - Oct 2019
      Phd candidate

My work was mainly focused on the research field of liver fibrosis, a complication of many diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), type 2 diabetes and obesity. I was mostly interested in exploring the role of innate immune system, specifically macrophages, and their interplay with the development of liver fibrosis and fibrosis resolution.
