The purpose of this award is to distinguish an outstanding Master’s Thesis or PhD Dissertation (MT/DD) promoting ethical dimensions in OR-based studies. The aim is to encourage young researchers, as members of the future generation of managers and decision-makers, in developing and implementing Operations Research techniques for solving contemporary problems presenting ethical dimensions. Many fields of application may be considered, including energy, environment, health care, peace studies, economics, CSR, finance...For this, the inaugural EthOR Award (EURO-2013 conference (Rome, July 1-4, 2013), researchers submitted an extended abstract of 6 pages, and an accompanying letter of evidence and support from their academic supervisor(s) to Professor Cristóbal Miralles(cmiralles@omp.upv.es), Chair of the EURO Working Group and the Award Selection Committee. The selected finalists presented their work during a special session held during EURO 2013. All received an official certificate of excellence in developing OR techniques and/or applications contributing to ethical decision-making. Robyn Moore, as the overall winner, received a cash prize and a cordial invitation to deliver a plenary at the 17th ELAVIO 2013, in Valencia Spain. This is a conference and summer school on Operations Research that aims to promote a scientific and technological forum of discussion and exchange between young and senior operations research investigators.
