Seminar: Utilization of C5-C6 Refinery Streams Guide: Dr. V. V. MahajaniAny hydrocarbon mixture can be burned to deliver energy but utilizing it for synthesis of petrochemicals is good upgradation. Refinery C5- C6 streams value addition is possible by separating and utilizing them as feed stock for valuable chemicals like ethers, ethylene, propylene, alcohols, alkylates, aldehydes, synthetic rubber, resins which have value as well as demand. As an extreme operating condition, a petrochemical refinery instead of petroleum refinery is profitable option in the markets where gasoline demand is on lower side.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thesis: Theoretical and experimental studies in solid-liquid expanded bed.Guide: Dr. A. B. PanditLiquid–solid fluidized beds are used in chemical industry, hydrometallurgy, food technology, and biochemical processing and water treatment. The successful scale up, design and operation of liquid fluidized beds mainly depend on the accurate prediction of the behavior and features of the system, such as phase holdups and their distributions, flow patterns, and mixing levels of the individual phases. The specific objectives of this study were: (1) to measure the axial solid phase holdup profiles and calculate the axial solid phase dispersion coefficients, (2) to calculate liquid phase axial dispersion coefficients by using pulse injection technique and RTD analysis, (3) to investigate the effects of superficial velocity, bed height (inventory), and size distribution on the solid phase holdup and liquid mixing. This international symposium is organized by the Research and Development Centre of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, India’s premier oil refining and marketing company. The ISFL series of symposia has evolved to be the biggest biennial international event, showcasing the progress and advancement in the area of fuels and lubricants in India and overseas. The 8th Symposium in the series, i.e., ISFL-2012 was organized during March 5-7, 2012, in Habitat World at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India. The theme of this symposium was “Advances in Fuels, Lubricants and Alternatives”. This symposium covered latest developments in the area of fuels and lubricants. Special emphasis was given to novel refinery processes / catalysts for producing cleaner fuels meeting Euro-IV/V beyond specifications, alternative fuels etc. Specific technical sessions were planned on the automotive oils, lubricants, base stocks and additives, refinery catalysts and processes, bio-fuels and futuristic fuels. During the symposium, 106 technical papers presented by eminent scientists, industry leaders, OEMs, academicians and policy makers related to the latest advancements in the areas of fuels and lubricants. Over 400 delegates from petroleum industry, auto manufacturers, and environmentalists and from other allied industries which included more than 40 delegates from overseas representing 10 countries participated in this event.
