Although these mutations are rare they are highly penetrant.DLG2 (aka PSD-93) is part of the post-synaptic density, a structure found with dendritic spines and associates with the post-synaptic membrane. Microdeletions of DLG2 have been associated with schizophrenia. This project is part of, and funded by, the larger DEFINE project which is studying the effect of high-penetrance mutations conferring risk for a spectrum of mental disorders that cross diagnostic boundaries. Sept 2014 - Oct 2015
      Research Technician

My project aims to discover phenotypes associated with neural precursor cells carrying a CYFIP1 or 15q11.2 CNV. This will be achieved by deriving neural precursor cells from both ES and iPS cells and examining their motility through transwell assays and live cell imaging. Additionally I am creating a CYFIP1 haploinsufficent cell line, that mimics the human condition, using the CRISPR-Cas9 system and then assaying the motility of these cells. Ultimately the aim will be to compare the CRISPR mutant neural precursor cells to 15q11.2 patient derived neural precursor cells. I am also a Fire Warden for our floor and actively involved in science communication.I officially ended this position when I took up my PhD position, but have continued to help where possible in the continuation of this work. This included training of a masters student taking over the project, and additionally genotyping a new rodent line.
