      -Helped work to make a transgenic mouse model of Congenital Ichthyosis with the mentorship and oversight of one of the lab researchers.-Learned numerous lab techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid DNA isolation, genetic cloning in plasmid vectors, tissue culture and confocal microscopy.-Trained in the mouse facility and learned tailing and tagging techniques for this model organism. Worked to help maintain the transgenic mouse lines.-Learned how the lab worked from the ground up. Began by autoclaving dishes, making reagents and performing small experiments such as genotyping.       -Worked as a volunteer, state and nationally certified EMT to provide care BLS care to anyone on campus.-Provided care to over 100 patients in need of emergency medical care.-Took three to five 15 hour shifts each month for the duration of each school year.-Ranked up to crew chief during my first year and served as a leader and veteran on shifts.-Attended weekly meetings which included call debrief to maintain EMT knowledge.-Attended quarterly training sessions to maintain EMT skills. Helped ensure a stable transition. -Ran weekly squad meetings and led 35 of my peers. -Ran bi-weekly leadership meetings to plan squad activities and ensure we executed our roles with a cohesive vision.       Ecuadorian Health Care intern

      -Observed four different clinical settings in the Ecuadorian hospitals. These clinical rotations were general surgery, hematology and oncology, the delivery floor in the public maternity hospital and obstetrics and gynecology.-Took Spanish classes each afternoon and improved fluency of Spanish, including increased proficiency in medical Spanish.-Learned how to palpate a full-term pregnancy and observed numerous other medical techniques.-Engaged in the culture of Ecuador.
