Apr 2015 - Sept 2015Research InternDuring my tenure as a research intern at AMADE udg, I had the privilege of contributing to a significant project that explored the realm of composite structures, focusing on the critical aspect of damage behavior. Over the course of six months, I dedicated my efforts to exploring the insight of "Damage Behaviors of Different Lay-ups of Thin Ply Non-Crimp Fabric (NCF) Laminates". Recognizing the scarcity of experimental studies in this domain, I embarked on an investigation aimed at elaborating the damage resistance and tolerance characteristics of various thin-ply laminates. The study encompassed eight distinct laminate configurations, including four quasi-isotropic, two asymmetric, and two non-symmetric lay-ups. To evaluate the damage behaviour of these structures, I exposed them to low-velocity impacts to gauge their damage resistance. Furthermore, the assessment of damage tolerance involved analyzing compression impact strength (CAI), a crucial parameter in design. Employing the NDT-C-scan method I assessed the extent of delamination, contributing valuable insights to the field. This comprehensive exploration of thin-ply NCF laminates' damage behavior formed the basis of my master's thesis, reflecting my commitment to advancing the understanding of composite materials Weniger anzeigen

University of Patras
Jan 2017 - Jan 2020Research Engineer (Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher)I actively contributed to the "ICONIC" project, an ITN initiative supported by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The project's focus was on enhancing the crashworthiness of composite transportation structures, and my specific involvement revolved around the topic of "High strain rate characterization of novel composite coupons and structures."In the realm of transportation structure composites, the potential for damages resulting from collisions or impacts is significant due to the complex interplay of inertia, viscous behavior of matrix, and other fibers nonlinearities. As these materials exhibit sensitivity to strain rates, particularly in high-speed scenarios, it becomes crucial to conduct high strain rate testing to obtain material properties that enable a deeper understanding of the structural performance of composite materials.Throughout the course of the project, I achieved several notable milestones:1. I pioneered a compression split Hopkinson pressure bar with precise bar alignment using a laser module and pulse shaping. This innovation ensured consistent strain rates and reduced oscillations. 2. I successfully designed and optimized a split Hopkinson tensile bar, addressing challenges in specimen gripping for tensile testing.3. I advanced high strain rate testing using the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) method, characterizing novel composite materials like 3D woven and Uni weave NCF composites. This improved our understanding of their dynamic performance.Beyond technical gains, I met two milestones and authored seven technical reports as per the ICONIC framework, promptly submitted to the European Commission. I also shared findings at conferences like ECCS, EASN, and ECCCS-I.In summary, my involvement in the ICONIC project exemplifies my commitment to advancing the understanding of high strain rate behavior in composite materials and contributing to the enhancement of transportation structure crashworthiness. Centro Ricerche Fiat
Jan 2018 - Nov 2018Visiting Research FellowDuring my research visit at the Centro Ricerche Fiat, I had the invaluable opportunity to delve into the fascinating realm of composite materials within automotive applications, with a particular focus on enhancing crashworthiness. The comprehensive research work encompassed a multi-faceted approach, ranging from materials exploration to testing methodologies and manufacturing processes, particularly emphasizing extrusion techniques.Throughout the visit, 1. I actively engaged in an array of activities. I immersed myself in material testing, gaining invaluable insights into diverse material systems and their prerequisites for 3D additive manufacturing. 2. I undertook hands-on experimental testing, which encompassed a range of evaluations including stick-slip tests, lap shear tests, drop impact tests, and damping tests. These experiments were performed on a variety of composite materials, aiding in the establishment of a holistic understanding of their mechanical properties and performance characteristics. This visit allowed me to build a comprehensive outline of crashworthiness considerations, integrating the intricate interplay between materials, testing methodologies, and the manufacturing processes. Ulster University
Jan 2018 - Jan 2018Visiting Research FellowDuring my research visit to Ulster University, I had the invaluable opportunity to explore the intricate weave structures of composite materials. Through my time there, I became well-acquainted with the art of composite materials, studying their various architectures and weave designs using specialized software like ScotWeave. Additionally, I gained hands-on experience in the manufacturing process, particularly focusing on Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM), which served as a pivotal tool in crafting novel advanced composite materials boasting enhanced crashworthiness. The journey was immersive as I familiarized myself with the manufacturing techniques, understanding the requisites for creating these innovative materials. One of the highlights of my time at Ulster University was the optimization of an appropriate mold for manufacturing laminates with the desired thickness and superior quality. Additonally, I had the privilege of witnessing the creation of a Satin weave 2D woven composite material. This accomplishment was further magnified by subjecting the material to high strain rate testing, the outcomes of which were compellingly presented at the prestigious ECCM 2018 Conference. My visit at Ulster University significantly enriched my understanding of composite materials, weaving techniques, and advanced manufacturing processes, leaving an indelible mark on my academic and professional journey.
