Obtain lab specimens and prepare for procedures such as conscious sedation, pelvic exams, eye exams, and many more. Identify and anticipate the needs of the patient.

  While in this immersive experience I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology and disease process of the critical care patient while learning evidence-based treatment approaches. While under the direct mentorship of a registered nurse I was able to pass medications including critical care medications and drips, become acquainted with equipment that high acuity patients require as well as learn how to best communicate with the patient's family and other members of the healthcare team.
