Used Rapid Injection NMR techniques to observe the formation of organocuprates and to study their reactivity for producing allenic hydrocarbons.

      Aug 2010 - Jul 2015

Research Assistant – to Dr. Webster SantosInvestigated preparations of differentially protected diboron reagents. Explored the synthesis of 1,1-disbustituted allenes and their intermediates. Developed a platinum-catalyzed diboration of 1,1-disubstituted allenes with the unsymmetrical diboron reagent, (pin)B–B(dan). Developed aqueous conditions for the copper-catalyzed conjugate addition of B(dan) to acetylenic esters and amides using (pin)B–B(dan). Isolated synthetic intermediates and products via recrystallization, sublimation, distillation, HPLC and column chromatography techniques. Characterized compounds using 1D and 2D NMR techniques, X-ray Crystallography, HRMS, and GC-MS. Group GC-MS specialist – Repaired, cleaned, maintained and trained personnel to use our Hewlett Packard 6890-GC/5973-MS and Agilent 7890B-GC/5977A-MS. Show less

Research Assistant - to Dr. Todd MarderExplored the development of copper-catalyzed transformations of organoboron compounds. Pursued copper based catalytic systems capable of transforming the carbon-boron bond into new carbon-carbon bonds, including cross-coupling and carbon dioxide capturing reactions. Specifically, investigated the application of these methods using B-boryl ketones and esters substrates. Assisted care and maintenance of gloveboxes.
