  • Studied the effects of adding inerts on the CSN values of Coal at the research wing of Steel Authority Of India, under the supervision of Dr. T. K. Das, DGM &HOG (Coal Carbonization Laboratory), RDCIS, SAIL) & Dr. B.K. Sahoo, AM. • It was found that adding inerts to coal reduces its CSN values which is undesirable. The indigenous coal have lower CSN values implying that it might contain inerts. The project explored optimum quantity and types of low-cost inert material that can be mixed with different grades of coking coal so that cost efficiency can be achieved without losing substantial calorific value.
