      Counting Assistant

I worked as a counting assistant at the local elections in May 2021. This included the local council, councillors and police and crime commissioner elections. In June 2021 I worked as a counting assistant at the Chesham & Amersham by-election. As a counting assistant at both of these set of elections I was dutied with counting votes in order to determine the results. Working as a counting assistant taught me how to work well under pressure and be meticulous, especially when you are responsible for something important, such as ensuring democracy functions. Waiter

I worked as a waiter for an events management company called everyEVENTuality. As a member of the waiter staff, I was principally tasked with ensuring the guests were enjoying their time. I was most often behind the bar serving drinks to guests and sometimes delivered food to tables (if it was appropriate for the event). This role taught me invaluable communication and customer service skills as I was constantly engaged with guests and catering to their needs.

      Oct 2022 - May 2023
      Law in Society Mentoring Scheme

I participated in the Professional Liaison Network's Law in Society Mentoring Scheme. Paired with the Senior Investigations Officer of the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP), we undertook multiple meetings which involved nuanced discussions on environmental regulation. Involved within this was a research project that I undertook, examining a current issue facing the OEP and providing a short report on the steps the OEP could take to resolve the issue. The scheme was invaluable in developing my knowledge of environmental regulation; being a current undergraduate in Law with a profound passion in environmental protection the scheme was a perfect opportunity to engage in contemporary discussions with an industry professional. Law in Society Mentoring Scheme

Having completed the same mentoring scheme the previous year, I could not pass the opportunity to engage with the scheme again and benefit from the interaction of professionals in my field of interest. I was paired this time with the Senior Monitoring Environmental Law and Advice Officer of the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP). In the course of multiple meetings we discussed the contemporary role of environmental regulation and the importance of bodies such as the OEP in facilitating environmental protection. Once again I undertook a research task looking at the potential strategy of the OEP in solving a current issue. I was praised for my project and was consequently put forward by mentor for the 'Mentoring Prize' for going 'above and beyond' in displaying professionalism, engagement with the scheme, and evidence of continuous learning. I was shortlisted alongside 18 other participants out of a potential 412. My mentor's comments can be found below:'Rorie really went above and beyond, and deeply researched the topic I set. He has such a good grasp of the basics and how to succeed already. It was a joy and a privilege to have him as my mentee.'This scheme further developed my knowledge on environmental regulation and its role in pursuing environmental protection through the operation of the law, whilst building on my professionalism and discussion-based skills. Land and Property Consultant Intern

As a land and property consultant intern I had the unique opportunity to experience the variety of work that rural property consultants do. Working alongside esteemed chartered surveyors and property consultants I gained valuable knowledge in areas of property valuation, rural agency work, planning and development and dispute resolution. Of most insight to me was working with a client who was in dispute with HS2 and the effects of a compulsory purchase order resulting in severance. Working with statutory law I aided in the formation of a response that would oblige the purchasing authority to purchase the whole property. The whole experience taught me a great deal about rural land management and the expert services provided by firms such as Briggs & Stone. Show less
