  Flue Gas Desulphurisation Engineer (Industrial Placement)

  • Based within Flue Gas Desulphuriation plant being exposed to the absorption, gypsum dewatering and wastewater treatment processes • Investigated key parameters which improve the performance of the FGD absorbers including L/G ratio and pH to demonstrate compliance to future environmental limits• PI Processbook used for data anlysis to solve problems facing the FGD plant and improve daily monitoring • Investigated and pinpointed causes of low gypsum purity to obtain purity requirements set by British Gypsum• Smaller projects included looking at ways to reduce water and air usage during offload periods• Assisted lead engineers with day to day maintenance and outage works to improve reliability of the plant Show less

  I support and implement process safety compliance to the Cold Rolled Products (CRP) works area at the Port Talbot Steelworks site.Key skills: - Incident reporting and analysing data to identify trends of process operation safety trips- Instigating and facilitating investigations if deemed a High Potential Incident- Writing COMAH Safety Report- Facilitate Mangement of Change (MoC) governance meetings, reviewing risk assessments to changes on site prior to implementation - Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for annual plan for the Cold Rolled Products works area with realistic targets to drive process safety improvement and compliance - Support Process Safety Critical Equipment (PSCE) management - Lead, scribe and participate in Hazards studies including HazIDs, HazOps, LOPAs and ALARP. Studies have been on the topic of decommissioning, demolition and operating lines.- Comparing operating lines against relevant good practice and idnetifying actions to improve safety of operation - Deploying barrier management audits throughout local works area to senior managment team- Process Safety support for new projects Show less Process Engineering Graduate Scheme at TATA Steel UK, Port Talbot Steelworks. Key member of the Process Safety Improvement Project with the main duty of reassessing hazard risk assessments to produce accurate and up-to-date documentation.Participated in 3 HazOps/PHRs providing process and process safety knowledge. A main input into the Process Safety Improvement project was creating and updating process safety information, specifically drawings which could be used in the Hazard studies.This work has lead to plant improvements to the three COMAH High Hazard Installations (HHI) within CRP and the information gathered was submitted as part of the Safety Report 2023.
