      Feb 2008 - Jun 2008
      Production Assistant

Parts manufacture for a racing car which won 1st and 2nd prizes at the Formula Student competitions at Hockenheim and Silverstone, resp. Activities included milling, lathing and lay-up.

    • Peutz B.V.

      Apr 2009 - Jul 2009
      Assistant consultant

Developing procedures and policy for safety at a sea transport company.

    • Eindhoven University of Technology

      Sept 2009 - Dec 2013
      Ph.D. candidate

Development of numerical methods for simulation of airbag deployment. This project involved developing a suitable method for the complex-folded initial stowed airbag, where slender domains, large displacements and pervading self-contact modes prevent use of other state-of-the-art techniques. The multiscale approach involved usage of the finite element method and boundary element method. An up-to-date publication list is available on the website (link below).

    • Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES)

      Aug 2012 - Nov 2012
      Visiting researcher

Collaboration with Dr. Prudhomme and others on goal-oriented model adaptivity. The project involved model adaptivity for Stokes and Navier-Stokes for viscous incompressible flow in the context of the Ph.D. project. Alongside this, a model adaptive approach was devised for blending methods, such as the Arlequin method.

    • SINTEF

      Feb 2014 - Apr 2017
      Postdoctoral Researcher

In the search for clean energy sources, wind energy an important alternative. Toincrease power output, wind turbines are installed offshore and with large rotor diameters of up to 200m. Focus is on the development of a software package for robust simulation of high Reynolds number flow around turbine blades. In conjunction, I am studying and developing (isogeometric) discretizations for (turbulent) incompressible flow.

    • University of California, San Diego

      Aug 2015 - Oct 2015
      Visiting Scholar

Collaborative work with prof. Y. Bazilevs on developing a structure-preserving variational multiscale method for the simulation of incompressible turbulent flow. The method distinguishes itself from many other turbulence models in that it inherits many of the conservation properties of the exact problem, avoids heuristics of parameter selection, and switches off automatically where all features are resolved. We have observed superior accuracy per degree-of-freedom.
