Forest restoration is an important strategy to reverse biodiversity loss and mitigate carbon emissions. As part of the ReSeeD project, I am studying the importance of seed-dispersing birds and mammals for tropical forest restoration in the Atlantic Forest region of Brazil. Through a combination of focal observations, the use of wildlife cameras, acoustic devices, and mist netting, we aim to quantify plant-frugivore interactions to see how this drives forest recovery in terms of biodiversity (both species and functional richness) and carbon sequestration.
