    • Pullman foursquare church

      Aug 1992 - Apr 1999
      Assistant pastor

Fresh out of college, I took the $100 a month job (woo-hoo!) and became the campus pastor for college students. From there I moved into assisting the senior pastor with all aspects of church life: leadership training, small groups ministry, worship pastor, marketing, bookkeeping, and facilities management. Much of our work was collaborative with other campus ministries as we sought to break down barriers between churches. We had the most cutting edge web page of any church we knew in the mid-90's as HTML broke onto the scene. Show less

    • Family advocate program

      Jun 2000 - Jun 2006
      Operations manager/bookkeeper

Family Advocates is a private not-for-profit agency working to strengthen families and keep kids safe by empowering everyday people to protect and enrich the lives of youth. It serves the 10 counties of Southwest Idaho through the CASA program, representing abused children and providing in-home parent education utilizing trained volunteers.During my tenure I brought the organization's accounting out of the dark ages and into a computerized accounting system, eliminating material weaknesses and significant findings from a Federal Single Audit prior to my arrival. I oversaw a $1 million budget in my role, functioning as the controller of the organization. Most of this money was through a large federal grant with the Department of Education. I moved the organization out of "dial-up" and into a fully networked computer system, managing the file and email server and other technologies. Much of my "spare time" was spent helping with grant writing, marketing, volunteer recruitment and management, tech support, facilities, and community networking. For three years, I wrote and produced the Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month television ad for the Idaho Child Abuse Prevention Coalition. I also created a statewide outcomes measurement database for the Idaho Parent Information Resource Center, a donor and volunteer tracking database, and an auction registration and checkout database. • Genesis world mission

      Apr 2006 - Mar 2014
      Executive director

As executive director, I led this well respected local and international health and human services organization through a period of growth and development. My responsibilities included:Fund Development | Grants Management | Event Planning | Collaborative Partnerships | Controller-level Accounting | Board Development | Operations Management | Information Technology | Facilities Management. I supervised up to 11 staff members and had organizational responsibility for nearly 500 volunteer medical professionals and lay people locally.During this time I helped build and provide platforms to deliver healthcare to lower-income uninsured people through hundreds of volunteers a year at the Garden City Community Clinic and Volunteer Physicians Network. I consulted with other free-clinics in SW Idaho get started and grow to their own place of maturity, networking them together for greater overall effectiveness. During my term of leadership, the organization helped build a financially self-sustaining clinic in Kenya that provides 30,000 patient visits annually as well as a community health empowerment project in an isolated village. The total impact of this organization provided health care access to tens of thousands of financially vulnerable people and required establishing a wide variety of partnerships with governments, corporations, churches, and other community organizations. May 2014 - Oct 2014
      Interim operations director

During a season of debilitating administrative staff transitions, I provided day to day executive leadership and management including direction of staff, board relations, and operations. A significant portion of time was dedicated to preparing for the annual independent audit, moving the financial records cleanly out of a cumbersome financial software package, and revising the budget to include the detail of multiple funding streams across several locations and functional classes - while keeping ongoing finances flowing. • Ada county medical society, inc.

      Oct 2014 - now
      Executive director

ACMS connects the docs of Ada and Elmore Counties and nothing gives me greater pleasure than helping make those connections. I am responsible for leading our local physicians' membership association, now comprised of more than 2700 doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students and residents. My job involves the nuts to soup of event planning, marketing and design work, publications, business and sponsor development, coalition building, member education and everything in between. What I am most passionate about is helping return the practice of medicine that is focused on serving people, not productivity and profits. The rapid industrialization of healthcare, combined with overburdensome regulations, has destroyed the connections between people who practice medicine, accelerating burnout, depression, and occupational PTSD. We must rehumanize healthcare by working to rebuild what carried most physicians through their careers, in spite of the difficulty of the work they do. Show less
