► Dog overpopulation poses serious animal welfare issues and major threats to human health. In 2012, the community of Puerto Natales (Chile) was struggling with a large population of free-roaming dogs. A long-term management plan was therefore established in partnership with Veterinarians Without Borders - Canada and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). A key component of this plan was to determine through a research study whether chemical castration effectively reduced aggression and roaming behaviour in male dogs. Show less
