  Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) for the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, following the Sendai Framework for DRR 2015-2030 and the UNFCCC Climate Action Framework.• Researched and wrote official external UNDP publication, “Five Approaches to Build Functional Early Warning Systems”. The publication includes a wide collection of data from UN country offices and regional institutions, and highlights innovative solutions for early warning systems within the areas of institutions and regulations, technology, community outreach, private sector engagement, and international data-sharing.• Researched global disaster insurance best practices to investigate options for disaster recovery financing in the Eurasia region. The final report and presentation laid the foundation for the Istanbul DRR Financing Regional Conference.• Planned successful DRR/CCA events such as the South East Europe Urban Resilience Building Action Network conference, with more than 100 participants.• Developed a project poster about Technical Assistance on Paris Agreement Implementation in Eastern Partnership Countries, which was on display at the 2018 EU4CLIMATE conference.   The UNHCR Gicumbi office serves 25,000 Congolese refugees in two refugee camps. As the Associate Shelter and Field Officer, I was based in the field and was responsible for the camps’ risk reduction portfolio, WASH activities, construction projects, spatial planning, energy implementations, and needs assessments.• Led risk management activities and developed a national risk register to track priorities for the Rwanda UNHCR operation.• Collaborated with UN sister agencies and implementing partners such as WFP, IOM, UNICEF, UNV, and ICRC to coordinate an effective refugee response, including leading a 40-classroom construction project.• Established a refugee shelter volunteer committee to promote a sense of ownership among refugees, leading to increased female participation in shelter activities from less than 10% to 40%. Collaborated with committee to identify and sensitize households most in need, and worked with refugees with special needs to identify accessibility gaps.• Implemented renewable energy initiatives by conducting research and cost-benefit analyses, installing solar-powered street lighting, and distributing solar home systems.• Mapped all refugee camps in Rwanda using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to identify needs and present achievements in order to support grant proposals.• Supervised expenses of USD700,000/year for construction and development initiatives.• Guided 50+ missions of foreign ambassadors, donor representatives, and ministers visiting the camps, educating them about the Congolese refugee situation.• Created database to improve tracking of shelter needs and material distribution, leading to a decrease in shelter fraud and allowing the organization to exceed shelter activity targets by 173% in 2018 and 218% in 2019. Seconded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB to support the International Organization for Migration, IOM with the establishment of eight humanitarian hubs in hard to reach areas; Kodok, Leer, New Fangak, Mandeng, Pieri, Jiech, Raja and Kajo-Keji. The Humanitarian Hubs will contribute to improved working and living conditions for the IOM, other UN entities, and NGOs by the establishment of more sustainable accommodation and working facilities in deep field locations.
