I am currently heading three research projects. Two of them are contract research projects for Finnish Defence Forces on measuring and supporting soldier performance, in collaboration with VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and KIHU – Research Institute for Olympic Sports. The third one is entitled "Building operational readiness of control room crews: preparing for the unexpected" with the VTT as partner and funding from the Nuclear Waste Management Fund. In this project we aim at understanding effects of stress and work load on cognition and team performance, and how to support performance in demanding situations. We also develop training and explore the opportunity to use VR/XR technology in complex operational work. Amongst my most recently completed projects are "Seamless patient and health care" carried out in collaboration with HUS, Aalto, Nokia, BcBMedical, and Elekta Neuromag, and "Crafting operational resilience in nuclear domain" with the VTT. These projects involve work modeling, cognitive testing, and physiological and brain recordings to objectively evaluate and follow the effects of work load on cognition, performance and wellbeing of the individual.
