      Rethinking Food Security

      Spring semester study abroad program lead by School of International Training (SIT). Program was one of their International Honors Program (IHP) called Rethinking Food Security.       The Green Apprenticeship is a two month long sustainable development and permaculture design course. Participants learn about the social, economical and ecological issues facing critical industries such as agriculture, water, energy, waste management, construction, and more. The program includes both theoretical learning as well as practical hands on learning and application of knowledge. In order to graduate from the course, all participants must complete a permaculture design project.

      During the summer of 2015 I drove around the country stopping to work on five farms. I was able to stay at each farm for 10-30 days. This experience provided me a chance to explore the agricultural world and lifestyle. It has helped me get a better idea of what I am interested in pursuing agriculturally.

      In this position, managed the ski and snowboard gear rental operations of a high end Rental/Retail store at a large ski resort. Oversaw the training of rental technicians, developed and implemented new practices and procedures, and managed day-to-day operations of the rental shop.

      At Vermont Irrigation I worked on the installation of new and upkeep of existing underground automatic irrigation systems on lawns, gardens and commercial sites. These systems numbered over 1500 primarily in northern Vermont, as well as in parts of upstate New York, New Hampshire and Maine.As the primary Service Technician I focused on addressing service calls from our customers. I worked solo or lead crews in general maintenance and small to medium renovations of existing irrigation systems.Service calls ranged from minor replacements, updating irrigation systems to match new landscaping or housing renovations, and problem solving mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues.I frequently worked directly with customers to on the instruction of the use of their irrigation system, finding solutions to issues they brought up, and discussing and planning for changes or additions to their system that they desired.
