Jul 2017 - Sept 2017Civil and structural engineer traineeI have undergone my internship starting from 3rd July 2017 until 8th September 2017 at a consultant company, WK & Partners Consult Sdn. Bhd. (refer hereon as WKNPC) in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. WKNPC is established by a group of practicing engineers with a high commitment to provide excellent civil and structural consultancy services to the client. These are all the tasks equivalent to a fresh graduate engineer that had been given and completed by me during my internship period:• Completed calculation of industrial building systems (IBS) content scoring.• Satisfactorily reduced IBS score by considering ACOTEC (concrete wall panel with 50% of brick wall weight) for residential partition, instead of using brick wall with zero IBS score or ALC block wall with many crack issues.• Prepared & modified structural drawings using AutoCAD.• Manual & computational structural design calculation of RC superstructures• Calculated column load, cut & fill for earthwork project.• Assisted senior engineer in the supervision of dynamic pile tests during site visits, inspection & meetings. • Prepared site progress report on pile driving stages & pile integrity tests.• Assisted senior engineer for the submission to the authorities & liaising with the corresponding authority bodies.• Explored new engineering software: Revit & ProtaStructure.• Involved in the vendor application with Sime Darby.• Exposed to the earthworks, precast & cast in-situ concrete, fabric steel bar.• Observed how pile driving analyzer (PDA) performs during pile driving & learned hydraulic injection piling method.• Studied method of statement for production & QA/QC procedures for manufacturing & supply of precast concrete. School of civil engineering, universiti sains malaysia
Sept 2017 - Jun 2018Student researcher - final year projectAbstract:Bolted structural glass facades have evolved to the point where the technique appears to have matured and become the most transparent facade system available mainly for storefront, walkways and lobby areas in buildings. The point fixed glass façade system (PFGFS), also known as a spider glass system, is popular and considered to be a more elegant façade option compared to the framed glass façade system. The system is fixed to the support structure using special bolt fittings and structural spider arms, which implies that the glass must be drilled and tempered. Consequently, the glass is significantly weakened exactly at the position where peak stresses occur when forces are applied. In this research, the stress distribution on point-fixed bolted glass system subjected to static loading is investigated by means of numerical modelling and parametric analyses. A numerical model was constructed according to the specifications specified in past research project, implemented using ABAQUS software and subjected to a compressive load during three points bending test. The model was validated by comparing the past experimental results with the numerical results. By means of non-linear finite element analyses, the stress distribution of the glass panel has been investigated. The influence of the number of connectors, hole-to-edge distance, spacing of the bolt connections, hole diameter, the arrangement of connectors and thickness of glass pane on stress distribution were determined through the parametric study. Objectives: • To study the distribution of stress on point-fixed bolted glass system subjected to static loading.• To investigate the effect of geometrical properties of point-fixed bolted glass on the distribution of stress around the bolted connection. Benefit: Structural optimisation of point-fixed bolted glass system based on the determination of the stress distribution around the vicinity of the bolt holes Show less
