  Agronomist

  I led an R&D project for the University of Leon in conjunction with three external companies. I researched state-of-art technology for greenhouses and its potential application in order to develop extremely efficient and sustainable greenhouses. The greenhouse could be controlled independently to simulate different weather conditions through the use of individual temperature, humidity, light and carbon dioxide level controls. That flexibility grants farmers the ability to grow any crop, in any part of the world, under any circumstance. The project included insulated walls, LEDs, liquid “fertigation” system that streamlines the feeding and plant watering into one efficient process. I was required to ascertain the specific parameters plants need in terms of light for crops, fertigation, biological plant control, calculate the CO2 required at every stage and market research crop profitability. At the end of the first year the project encountered funding difficulties and had to be discontinued. Show less

  Manage the technical evaluation of late development Cereal varieties in line with the commercial strategy of the North Europe Business Unit and the global Cereals business.Lead the formal promotion process of Cereal varieties through pre-commercial stage, and official registration in the UK.Establish clear product profiles, in partnership with breeder, technical crop expert and Seeds Business Unit manager, and manage the late development stage testing network to measure and interpret technical performance.Generate the relevant data and information for product advancement decisions and support New Product Introductions (NPI) to deliver a competitive and profitable portfolio of Cereal seed products.Design the internal late stage testing network, and accurately interpret genetic potential of candidate varieties to deliver a step change in product performance. Show less I am delivering analytical results and reports to the UK Barley Breeding Team, being responsible for the day to day analysis within the Malting Quality Lab, while liaising with other functions and supporting the whole barley team´s goals for precision, accuracy and efficiency in site operations.I determine by analytical methods the quality of selected new barley varieties, working with tight and changeable deadlines, I also manage a team of harvest workers, during our peak season, for seed sampling and subsequent cleaning and testing of grain quality.I am further developing my knowledge in other areas such as in trials operations where I earned experience in seed preparation, drilling, harvesting and combining, achieving a good understanding of cereal production procedures.
