    • Abercrombie & Fitch

      Oct 2012 - Jul 2015
      Store Associate

My main role was to maintain the flow of merchandise onto the shop floor, as well as keeping up with the high presentation standards that are expected in both the shop floor and the stockroom. The years that I have spent there have increased my adaptability to a wide variety of roles, many of which I hope to utilise in the future elsewhere. One of the skills I have gained is a greater level of communication, as there is a lot of contact between the stockroom and the main store. It is imperative that everything is communicated clearly and appropriately via the store's walkie-talkie system, as this ensures that each department is working together in unison. My ability to work in a team has improved, whether it is managing a team or being managed. I have to take direction from my manager and I always ensure that I carry out the tasks he/she requests to the best of my ability. At the same time I must also delegate to a sub-team as to what their specific roles may be on a specific day. I may be given a small team of 3 or 4 associates to assist me in the 'pulling' process mentioned above. I have had to be flexible whilst working here, as I am often called in at short notice, and the two years that I have spent there have increased my adaptability to a variety of roles, many of which I hope to utilise in the future elsewhere. • Serve Legal Ltd

      Apr 2013 - Apr 2015
      Mystery Visitor

My role was to provide independent test purchases of age restricted products for retailers across the UK, to check if staff members are asking young people for ID.I was given a specific location where I must purchase a restricted product (e.g. alcohol, cigarettes, knives etc) and I must carry out a visit within a given deadline. I purchased the product whilst observing a number of features in the shop, and must also be aware if the server asks me for ID. I must then fill out a detailed form regarding everything that happened during the visit. I may then have to conduct follow-up visits, and may have to deal with members of staff from Serve Legal or even from the store headquarters themselves. The main skills gained which have allowed me to carry out this role so effectively are flexibility and reliability. I have had to go to a number of locations that are out of my way all across London, Birmingham and the South West, and I often do this at a moment's notice. My ability to work independently has enhanced as my time is spent alone in the car working with no assistance. Before the visits I must also plan my route and decide the best order to carry out my visits - a trait which requires great organisation and meticulous planning. My communication skills have been utilised during this job as I have to be in constant contact with my Area Manager, informing her of my progress at all times. I may also have to be in contact with senior members of staff at Serve Legal or at the Head Offices of the companies’ that hire Serve Legal. When this occurs I always maintain my professionalism over the phone, and communicate effectively to resolve any issues that may have arisen. Show less

My time at Europe's largest hedge fund was spent shadowing the different departments within the firm, including Traders, Quantitative Analysts, Economists and Investor Relations. The internship only developed my passion for finance further, and it has encouraged me to look for work in the sector elsewhere.
