  The first in the RAF at my level to hold the position of Support Controller, working at London Area Terminal Control Centre (Military); managing a high workload of military/commercial traffic outside the airway system. Other tours in the UK, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands included the ATC Tower and Station Operations. These deployments involved support of the Red Arrows’ practice displays and the Tornado F3 Force on Quick Reaction Alert.

Working alone during night/weekend shifts, the IJC role required key decision making and flexibility. After the Gama Aviation takeover of IJC, the role became more team based with greater involvement in commercial charters, flight planning and support for NHS Scotland’s Air Ambulance operation.
