Our team, AquaticSensing, is part of NSF I-Corps program where we are trained to transform invention to commercialization. We are developing an ultrasensitive biosensor that can detect pathogens and other biological materials in water. This portable sensor has applications in aquaculture farms and in other industries where water quality is monitored. My role as an entrepreneurial lead is to help our team discover customer needs and build our business model. SWIMMER (Sustainable Water Innovations in Materials – Mentoring, Education, & Research) is a National Research Foundation Research Traineeship program at UMass Lowell that aims to train students in transforming the lifecycle of materials and their interaction with water ecosystems. I'm a part of a multidisciplinary team that works on biosensors for real-time detection of RNA/DNA from pathogens in water.
