  •Conducted research and design of chiral metamaterial, biological suture interface and biaxial compression apparatus•Designed novel 2D & 3D cellular structures and negative Poisson’s ratio metamaterial with improved mechanical properties and unique deformation mechanism in Solidworks. Fabricated test specimens using 3D printing•Analyzed new designed material via theoretical material modeling and proven the advanced mechanical properties•Developed finite element models in ABAQUS to analyze the mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of cellular structures and negative Poisson’s ratio metamaterial•Devised test strategies to test 3D printed specimens via mechanical experiments including tension/compression, biaxial compression, three points bending and fatigue test. Analyzed and documented test results•Invented biaxial compression apparatus applied to traditional tester. Fabricated the prototype using 3D printing•Participated in the proposal for National Science Foundation Career award. The proposal won the award•Advised senior design group with three senior undergraduates to design, test and analyze star-shape cellular structure.
