  As a Summer Intern (2005 & 2004) with the Permitting and Enforcement division of the Water Bureau, I was responsible for assisting the engineers with many projects. I helped with gathering information, reviewing discharge monitoring reports (DMR), and identifying noncompliance. I helped in investigating the harmful effects of Alkylphenol Ethoxylate, or APE for short, during the summer of 2005. Additionally, during the summer of 2004, I helped with a project involving stormwater permitting. These experiences allowed me to learn about the numerous rules and regulations that companies must adhere to so that our environment does not get polluted. Show less

  Hydrologic Technician

  This summer internship explored the water quality of all the major rivers of the sate of Connecticut, and many smaller rivers and streams. We recorded the stage, flow rate, D.O. alkalinity, and plated for bacteria. The samples were taken in increments to create a composite, preserved with acids and bases, and then shipped in the afternoon to a laboratory for further testing.

  I was responsible for arranging meetings with clients on a routinely basis. I meet privately with homeowners, businesses, and major corporations to receive and conduct water samples. I was regularly set with a complex schedule which required a great amount of organization and on the spot decisions about my route. Samples were delivered back to the laboratory, where I arranged samples and often preformed data entry using Login Management System (LIMS) to enter the samples into a coded format.
